The Fort Knox Religious Support Office will host the post's annual National Prayer Breakfast at the Saber & Quill's Signature Room March 1, beginning at 7 a.m.
The National Prayer Breakfast originated with groups corporately seeking godly guidance and reaffirming faith in God. In 1953, President Dwight Eisenhower adopted the practice, and every subsequent president has attended the event since with many organizations holding prayer breakfasts of their own.
Retired Sgt. Maj. Tony Rose will share his experiences during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the Pentagon, where he was among the first on the scene, reentering the burning building five times to rescue others. He earned the Army Soldier's Medal for Heroism for his actions and the Purple Heart for injuries sustained.
The event is free and open to the public. Where mission permits, Fort Knox supervisors are encouraged to allow service members and DOD civilian employees to attend. When permission is granted, Saber & Quill will be considered the service member's and employee's place of duty. No leave will be charged for the time.
