Dover, DE (January 28, 2020) -- On Sunday, Dr. Jette and Mr. White oversaw the loading and transfer of U.S.-made PATROIT missiles to the United Arab Emirates at Dover Air Force Base. Specifically, the U.A.E. acquired the PATRIOT Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missile, which is the Army's premier guided air and missile defense (AMD) system. The transfer and transport is the last step of an international acquisition and sale process that further fortifies the U.S.-U.A.E. relationship.
"The United Arab Emirates is an important American ally, and we are committed to strengthening their military," said Jette.
The U.S. and U.A.E. work together on a broad range of defense challenges, including counterterrorism; air and missile defense; and, security cooperation. The defense relationship has served as one of the key foundations of the broader strategic partnership for nearly 40 years. The U.A.E. reflects the mutual commitment to cooperation and consultation based on shared priorities.
In addition to the U.A.E., the PAC-3 has been sold to Germany, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.
