The following was written by Sgt. 1st Class Mark F. Ounan, an Active/ Guard infantry Soldier currently assigned to the 324th Military Police Btn., Chambersburg, Pa. Ounan is also the only current Soldier and Military Vehicle Preservation Association member taking place in the 2009 MVPA Convoy. Here's an exert from the journal he's keeping as he travels cross-country.
After having breakfast at the American Legion in Van Wert, Ohio, we set out toward the National Military History Center in Auburn, Ind. There we were treated to lunch and allowed to tour the museum.
When back in the car and on our way I focused on the car. The electrical system is still giving me trouble. While part of the convoy we must ride with our lights on day and night. In doing so, I've noticed my lights get dimmer and dimmer as the day goes on. So I've turned them off and have talked to the convoy commander, letting him know I was having trouble. He informed the others that I am now leaving them off during the daylight hours.
In the evening we pull into Indiana, home of the fighting Irish. South Bend, Ind., is now home to the Historic Lincoln Highway 17th Annual Conference.
Tomorrow is a rest day, but we still have several things planned in conjunction with the conference that I am a part of. Other than that, I'll be working on my car.
