Author Timothy Hillegonds will visit Fort Knox's Barr Memorial Library Jan. 30 at noon as part of the Authors at Your Library program.
While there, Hillegonds will discuss and sign copies of his memoir, "The Distance Between."
At age 18, Timothy set out from Chicago with a one-way ticket to Colorado and the hope of leaving his frustrations behind. His plan did not work out.
Fueled by drugs and poverty, Timothy's new relationship with single mother April was volatile and sometimes violent. When the stakes couldn't be higher, Timothy learns she is pregnant with his child. More than a harrowing story of addiction and abuse, Hillegonds' memoir is an exploration of and reckoning with fatherhood, violence, white male privilege and toxic masculinity.
Hillegonds' work has appeared in publications such as The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Rumpus, Assay, and others. He currently serves as a contributing editor for Slag Glass City. He lives in Chicago with his wife.
This event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase.
