VICENZA, Italy -- Soldiers from U.S. Army Dental Health Activity - Italy were part of a group of military and civilian volunteers from Caserma Ederle in Vicenza, Italy who lifted the spirits of children and immigrant families in need during the Christmas holidays with a visit to SOS Villagio del Bambini.

Two of the participants in the humanitarian event were Sgt. 1st Class DavidAllan Doan, senior dental enlisted advisor and Spc. Diana Allen, a dental specialist from Dental Activity Italy.

When describing his experience, Doan said, "I am so grateful to all those who were involved in putting this together. When you volunteer around the community, it's an emotional experience."

Doan added, "You see first-hand the way your assistance helps out the people in need and connecting with our local Italian community. Seeing all the kids receive the donated gifts really got to my heart."

Allen said, "Being selected to participate in this event was a really touching experience. It was really awesome to see both the Italian and American communities come together to make Christmas special for the children."

Also participating in the humanitarian event were the Mayor of Camisano City, Dr. Renzo Marangon, Father Claudio Zilio, a local priest and Tiziana Bevilacqua, president of the Camisanese Life Aid Center.

In addition to Italian children in need, participants also included immigrant families from Kosovo and other countries. The immigrant families are sponsored and supported by the Camisano Life Aid Center.
