SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Command Sgt. Maj. Rocky L. Carr assumed responsibility of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command from Command Sgt. Maj. Dana S. Mason, Jr. during a change of responsibility ceremony here, Dec. 4.

Carr will serve as the senior enlisted leader to the commanding general, Maj. Gen. Stephen E. Farmen, and will be an advocate for SDDC Soldiers and civilians around the globe.

"Command Sgt. Maj. Carr epitomizes everything I could want in a CSM. We are extremely fortunate to have a leader of his caliber join the Surface Warrior team," Farmen said.

Carr comes to SDDC from Germany, where he served as senior enlisted leader for the 21st Theater Sustainment Command.

"It's an honor for me to be here and to become a part of this SDDC team," he said. "I appreciate your confidence in me."

Mason, who served as SDDC's top enlisted Soldier since June 2017, will retire Friday after 35 years in the U.S. Army. He says he met the goals he set for himself when he took responsibility of the command.

"My goal was to serve as a competent professional and serve with dignity and respect," he said. "It has been a pleasure to serve as Surface Warrior Seven."

Carr says he is ready to hit the ground running.

"I am proud to be here, I am proud to serve, and I am proud to be SDDC's 17th command sergeant major," he said.
