LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- After the Thanksgiving holiday, contractor crews building a new 23-foot tall overpass that spans Interstate 5 in Lakewood have a series of overnight lane and ramp closures scheduled at the Thorne Lane interchange.From Dec. 4 to 6, crews will install a total of 15 bridge girders on the overpass that spans the railroad, the existing southbound I-5 Thorne Lane off-and on-ramps, and all lanes of I-5. The first two nights of work will close the Thorne Lane off-and on-ramps. The third night will affect all lanes of I-5, bringing significant delays to overnight travelers.Wednesday, Dec. 4Southbound I-5 exit to Thorne Lane and the Thorne Lane on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Thursday.Thursday, Dec. 5Southbound I-5 exit to Thorne Lane and the Thorne Lane on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Friday.Friday, Dec. 6From 10:30 p.m. Dec. 6 to 5:30 a.m. Dec. 7, both northbound and southbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane at Thorne Lane and directed up and over the Thorne Lane off- and on- ramps.During the Friday night work, travelers who use I-5 through Lakewood and Joint Base Lewis-McChord are advised to delay their trips or avoid the area. The Washington State Department of Transportation anticipates that significant backups may occur during the work.
