AMMAN, Jordan (Nov. 19, 2019) -- Soldiers with the 637th Contracting Team from Fort Bliss, Texas, along with members of Regional Contracting Office-Jordan and Air Force counterparts conducted an industry day to expand their vendor pool recently in Jordan.
The industry day brought together service members, companies and enterprises from throughout Jordan. The industry outreach event was open to all vendors and took place at the Jordanian Construction Contractors Association over a period of two days involving more than 25 vendors.
"On this day we shared knowledge, experiences and challenges," said Capt. Susana Martinez, chief of the RCO-Jordan. "It allowed Jordanian contractors an opportunity to present their capability briefs, which provides acquisition professionals a better understanding the market place."
Contractors presented the ability to provide services and supplies ranging from simple commodities to complex construction capabilities.
Contracting members also had the opportunity to meet key leaders with the Department of U.S. Commercial Service from the U.S. Embassy including a senior commercial specialist and contracting and procurement supervisor in order to provide them a better understanding of acquisition issues across the region. Additionally, they met with the president of Jordanian Construction who expressed his concerns and asked for assistance in educating local vendors with the process of doing business with the U.S. government.
The first day of the industry outreach event kicked off with both contracting offices briefing an overview of the acquisition process as well as introducing themselves. They discussed the different procurement systems in which registration is required in order to conduct businesses with the U.S government. Those systems included the System for Award Management and Joint Contingency Contract System. Computers in place allowed contracting members to assist contractors in registering with JCCS.
"This was a positive impact for the contractors that helped them get registered on the spot into JCCS," said Staff Sgt. Rafael Alamedapabon, a 637th CT contract specialist deployed to RCO-Jordan.
The second day consisted of different vendors from across Jordan providing both contracting teams presentations on the capabilities of their respective companies. Contracting teams met with approximately 20 different vendors from Jordan.
"We were able to communicate with them one on one and formally introduce ourselves as well as share our needs for supplies and services requirements within the theater," Martinez added. "More importantly, we built a relationship with Jordan contractors, and our Air Force contracting counterparts that in the long run will benefit the U.S government in the acquisition process."
