Hundreds of feet pounded the road, braving high humidity and temperatures in the 70s to partake in the eigth annual Army Hooah Race June 13.
Race is a little bit of a misnomer, as the day's events actually consisted of both a 5km and 10km road race.
Both races ended at Hedekin Field on Fort McPherson, but began in different communities that have partnership agreements with Fort McPherson.
The 5K race began at the East Point library and the 10K race began at the convention center in College Park.
In a further show of unity, racers consisted of Soldiers, Family members, Civilian employees on post, and members of the surrounding communities looking to challenge themselves and support the Army community.
Different categories, based on gender and age, allowed multiple participants in each race to walk off with individual awards.
A military team division category was also represented, a division once again won by the U.S. Army Central Road Racers team.
The victory marked the fourth consecutive win by the team and the fifth in six years, said Robert Dalton, a senior intelligence analyst with USARCENTAca,!E+and the team coach.
"It was a great ending to a wonderful era here at Fort McPherson," he said, noting that due to the base realignment and closure, the team will not be participating next year.
Though the Road Racers won't be present, the race will, looking for new participants to rise up and conquer the "Ks." So hold on to those running shoes. After all, a journey of 5 or 10K begins with a single stride.
