The Fort Stewart Bulldogs men's basketball team overcame a 23-point deficit in the consolation finals to earn third place at the 2019 Brick House Tournament, held at Joint Base Anacosita-Bolling, Washington DC, Oct. 11-12, 2019.

The tournament was the team's first competition of the 2019-2020 season.

The Bulldogs, comprised of top ballplayers from the Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield community, ultimately outscored Joint Base Henderson Hall by eight points in the third-place game.

Sgt. LaShawn Moore, a canon crew member assigned to 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, led the Fort Stewart team to a 3-2 tournament record, and was voted to the All-Tournament Team.

"I couldn't have earned this honor without my teammates," said Moore. "They trusted me, passed me the ball, and put me in good scoring positions."

A native of Aiken, SC, Moore played one year at Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College before enlisting in the Army.

"I plan to go back to school," he said. "I enlisted because I thought the Army would be the best route to pay for college."

Several Bulldogs players have college-playing experience and aspire to compete again at the collegiate level. The team is coached by Chief Warrant Officer 3 Aaron Bryant, a senior petroleum system technician at the 590th Quartermaster Detachment, 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, 3rd ID, who has played and coached company and post-level basketball teams since 2001.

"This was a great opportunity for us as a team to gauge where we currently are and what we need to do to improve in certain areas," said Coach Bryant. "I told my guys, 'It's not how you start, but how you finish'. We will be just fine."

The men's basketball team will compete in tournaments throughout the year in addition to regular season play, which will be announced at a later date.
