ANSBACH, Germany (September 27, 2019) -- U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) welcomed a new first sergeant during a change of responsibility ceremony at the Von Steuben Community Center on Bismarck Kaserne Sept. 27.
1st Sgt. Antonio Soto assumed responsibility of HHC during the event attended by many of USAG Ansbach's senior leaders, Soldiers, civilians and family members.
Capt. Jason Worthington, HHC commander, thanked everyone in attendance and Soto for accepting the position.
"Although First Sergeant Soto only arrived in Germany a couple of weeks ago, we have been emailing each other for four months," said Worthington. "Before ever stepping foot in in Ansbach, he was already providing me with guidance and advice."
Soto thanked the USAG Ansbach command team for giving him the opportunity to serve.
"I am eager to fill the first sergeant's roll and responsibilities for caring for Soldiers and civilians and enabling the commander's vision with sound senior enlisted advice," he said. "I want to assure both of you [Col. Steven M. Pierce, USAG Ansbach commander and Command Sgt. Maj. Philson Tavernier] and Ms. Gavley [USAG Ansbach deputy to the commander], that I will be the most engaged first sergeant in the Army."
Soto came highly recommended and Worthington said there was no doubt in his mind that Soto was the best person for the job.
"First sergeant Soto again, welcome to the team," Worthington said. "I look forward to serving alongside you as we Sustain, Support, and Defend, the Best Hometown in Europe."
Soto enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 2006. His first duty assignment was with the 551st Military Police Company, 716th Military Police Battalion, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He has also been assigned to the 787th Military Police Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; 554th Military Police Company, Stuttgart, Germany; and 701st Military Police Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Soto has numerous awards to include the Bronze Star Medal and Meritorious Service Medal. He has attended several military schools such as Physical Security/Crime Prevention Course, Crime and Criminal Intelligence Analyst Course, Master Fitness Trainer and is currently earning his Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in Management.
