The Fort Knox Directorate of Emergency Services will conduct a traffic study of primary installation entrance/exit points from Sept. 30 to Nov. 1 as part of its regular monitoring and assessment of traffic patterns. The Brandenburg Gate's normal inbound and outbound hours are operation are 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays and closed on federal and training holidays. During the study, however, its outbound-only lanes will also be open from 3-6 p.m. weekdays, excluding federal and training holidays.Motorists who would regularly use the Brandenburg Gate outbound lanes to reduce afternoon commute times to their next destination are encouraged to use this exit point during the study, as it will help provide DES officials with more accurate data.No additional funding is authorized to support this study. Rather, resources as well as manpower already on hand during the aforementioned times are being shifted. If, following a careful and deliberate analysis of the data, a decision is made to change hours of operation at any of the primary entrance/exit points, a follow-on announcement will be made. The garrison commander's aim is to facilitate the most efficient throughput possible onto and off of the installation within available resources, while helping ensure the safety and security of the community.
