Eighth Army Soldiers were on hand for the dedication of the Col. Brian D. Allgood helipad at Ajou University Medical Center's Trauma Center in Suwon, South Korea, Sept. 6. The dedication was in conjunction with the introduction of the first and only 24-hour medical evacuation helicopter in the Republic of Korea. Eighth Army has a longstanding partnership with Ajou University Medical Center and conducts medical readiness exercises and training with the hospital every year. Allgood served as hospital commander at U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan from June 2004 to June 2006. He and 11 other U.S. service members were killed when their UH-60 helicopter was shot down by enemy rocket fire in Iraq Jan. 20, 2007. The Yongsan hospital was named after Allgood and the 65th Medical Brigade at Camp Humphreys will dedicate a new hospital to him in the coming weeks.
