ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. -- Phase 2 of the transition of recycling services to solid waste services for wood and cardboard began July 22.

Phase 2 focused on the western side of the industrial area.

Phase 3 began Aug. 5 and focuses on the northern side of the industrial area, including all facilities not already covered in Phases 1 and 2. During this time, recycling boxes for wood and cardboard will be swapped out for Advanced Disposal boxes.

There will be no more curbside services once the transition is complete.

Cardboard boxes must be broken down and deposited in appropriately marked rolloffs. All wood waste must be placed in appropriately marked rolloffs.

Crates and other wooden items should not stick out beyond the boundaries of the rolloff. Unusually long crates, for example, must be broken down to fit or the container cannot be hauled.

Please do not crowd the areas around rolloffs with parts or other items. If the contractors cannot reach a box, they cannot empty it.

Buildings not receiving curbside removal services should begin adjusting to the process of moving wood and cardboard to rolloffs staged in central locations throughout the industrial area. The boxes will be placed so no single shop has to travel an undue distance to properly dispose of waste.

This may require some adjustments in where and how parts and other items are stored.

Shop supervisors are encouraged to begin clearing a preferred space for wood and/or cardboard 20-yard boxes near their shops or in ideal shared locations.

The transition may result in some confusion. Shop supervisors should think about what services they need and where they could fit or share a rolloff with their neighbors.

The transition team is actively responding to requests and input. We ask everyone to look for box markings specifying the type of waste for each box. Signs will say "Wood" or "Cardboard."

Please do not put pallets and cardboard in the construction and demolition boxes.

Lindsay Dunahee, the solid waste program manager, is taking shop input for box placement. She can be reached at Ext. 6544 for questions, comments and concerns.
