Lieutenant Colonel Diosabelle (Jo) Buack graduated from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in Aviation in 2001.
Following completion of the Aviation Officer Basic Course, Initial Entry Rotary Wing training and the UH-60A/L Qualification Course in 2002, LTC Buack began her military career in South Korea. First, she served as a Forward Support MEDEVAC Team Leader, 542nd Medical Evacuation Company (Air Ambulance), at Camp Page, then an Air Assault Platoon Leader in A/2-2 Aviation Regiment (Air Assault) at Camp Stanley. After completing the Aviation Captain's Career Course in 2005, she was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and served as a Division Assistant Operations Officer in Iraq, commanded A/6-101st General Support Aviation Battalion in Afghanistan, and served as the S-3 Air in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. In 2009, she moved to Fort Rucker and served as the Aviation Basic Officer Leader and Warrant Officer Basic Courses Course Chief, Commander of D/1-145th (BOLC), and the Futures Branch Chief within the Capabilities Directorate. In 2012, after completing Air Command and Staff College, she served in 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) as the Group Aviation Officer and CJSOTF-A G35 in Afghanistan. In 2014, she served as the Aviation Program Manager in the Office of the Defense Representative -- Pakistan and helped complete the AH-1, AGM-114 Hellfire, and M134 Minigun Foreign Military Sales cases with the Pakistan Army. Upon leaving Pakistan in 2015, she moved to Headquarters, NATO Allied Land Command in Izmir, Turkey, where she served as the Chief of the Commanding General's Action Team. Prior to arriving back to Korea, she served as the 1st Infantry Division G3 Aviation Chief at Fort Riley.
LTC Buack's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 oak leaf clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (1 Campaign Star), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Army Aviation Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
In addition to majoring in Psychology at USMA, LTC Buack holds a Master of Military Operational Art and Science from Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.
