The Marne Independence Day Celebration starts July 3 with a 3rd Infantry Division run at 6:30 a.m. on Fort Stewart,

The Division run will cause traffic to be diverted from the south part of Hero Road, Gulick Avenue, West 6th Street, Bundy Avenue, the north side of 18th Street, Strong Avenue, Davis Avenue and Anderson Street. Commuters are encouraged to use alternate routes as Gate 1 will be closed to traffic from 6:30 to 8 a.m.

A free Family-day event will then be held for active-duty Soldiers and their Families, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Newman Fitness Center's field. Activities include a petting zoo, a working dog display, water slide and more. A free lunch for Soldiers and their Families will be hosted by the Hinesville Military Affairs Committee and their sponsors, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other Directorate of Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation facilities are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to include Corkan Recreation Center, Stewart Bowling Center, Corkan Outdoor Pool and the Splash Park.

The festivities continues on Hunter Army Airfield beginning at 7:30 p.m. as the 3rd ID Band performs a free concert for the general public at the Family Day Field at 8:45 p.m. Fireworks follow around 9:30 p.m. The 3rd ID concert is open to the general public and coolers are welcome; however, pets are not allowed.

The next day, July 4, Lady Antebellum and special guest Caroline Jones take the stage at Donovan Field on Fort Stewart. The concert is free and open to the public. Admittance starts at 3 p.m., the show starts at 7 and fireworks following around 10 p.m. Gate 3 will be used for general admittance to the concert area and parking.

"This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate our nation," said Command Sgt. Maj. Rebecca Myers, the garrison's senior enlisted leader. "We receive so much support throughout the year from the wonderful community here in Coastal Georgia. This is just a small way that we can say 'thank you' for the support to our Soldiers and our Families."

The event feature family-friendly activities like a rock-climbing wall, quad jumper and multiple bounce houses with $5 wristbands for all access. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from local food vendors.
