FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- The valorous actions of retired Capt. Christopher C. Palumbo, will be honored in a ceremony at John F. Kennedy Auditorium, U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, June 27, at 10:00 a.m.

Palumbo will receive the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC), presented by the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen. James C. McConville, which is the second highest military decoration awarded to a member of the U.S. Army.

The award commemorates Palumbo's actions April 11, 2005, in Afghanistan. An excerpt from Palumbo's award citation states, "Chief Warrant Officer 3 Palumbo while supporting a quick reaction force which was being engaged by enemy forces, expertly and decisively spotted targets and placed his helicopter in position from which his crew could effectively neutralize the enemy."

The DSC is awarded for extraordinary heroism: while engaged in action against an enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.
