JBSA-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - The Borden Institute, an agency of the Health Readiness Center of Excellence, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, released Military Veterinary Services as a part of the Textbooks of Military Medicine series on 3 June 2019.

This textbook is the first publication dedicated solely to veterinary services in the military. It was fitting that Borden Institute released this publication on the 103rd anniversary for the US Army Veterinary Corps.

With over 120 contributors, this textbook highlights the overlapping scope of veterinary readiness services. It includes topics on food protection, animal health, veterinary public health, research support, research development, training and education. The foreword was written by Lieutenant General Nadja Y. West, The Surgeon General, U.S. Army.

Brigadier General retired John L. Poppe, the 25th Chief of the US Army Veterinary Corps, was the senior consultant and editor for this distinctive publication. "This is the first textbook that captures the truly unique mission and practice of military veterinary medicine," said Poppe. "Veterinary service support is directly tied to the overall readiness of military service members and the Department of Defense."

The Military Veterinary Services textbook exemplifies the continuing readiness commitment to our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. It is with a great sense of gratification and enthusiasm that the Borden Institute present this high quality and exclusive publication.
