GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria's 2019 college graduates were recognized for their academic achievements at a graduation ceremony May 10 at Rose Barracks.

In his opening remarks, Garrison Commander Col. Adam J. Boyd highlighted the importance of education and congratulated the students' accomplishments, acknowledging that pursuing educational milestones requires determination, service and commitment -- making the U.S. military and the nation stronger.

"We congratulate you on a job well done. I am honored to also recognize our first local national to participate in this ceremony, Mr. Michael Groeschl," said Boyd.

In this years' ceremony, 35 graduates earned associate, baccalaureate and postgraduate degrees from the four on-post universities -- Central Texas College, University of Maryland University College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and University of Oklahoma -- as well as several off-post colleges.

"You serve as a shining example of what can be achieved, regardless of circumstance and environment. Each of you has overcome significant obstacles to reach this goal: Studying through deployments, PCS moves and unpredictable schedules, in addition to juggling classes with work, family and community service," said Boyd.

The senior enlisted leader for the garrison noted their sacrifices and thanked the graduates for their dedication.

"From balancing military missions and training and family life, while studying long hours into the nights and on weekends, graduates have attained outstanding goals," said USAG Bavaria Command Sgt. Maj. Micheal D. Sutterfield. "Army commitment to assisting Soldiers and their family members throughout service life-cycle includes preparing them for life after service by connecting them to resources for reintegration, employment and or education."

Garrison leadership, distinguished college representatives, members of the Education Center, and families and friends were all in attendance to celebrate the students' academic achievements and honor the universities' remarkable faculty.
