According to a Knox Hills representative, clearing Army housing can present challenges for Army Families already in the midst of planning for a move.

Knox Hills Project Director Phil Wrobel said prior planning can reduce stress and keep a permanent change of station from being a bigger chore than it has to be.

"We feel the most important thing residents can do is plan, plan, plan," Wrobel said. "There are so many moving parts -- from scheduling transportation, to finding a home at their new location, to registering at new schools -- it can be a stressful experience for the Family who ends up rushing to the last minute to take care of these issues."

Wrobel warns tenants not to get so wrapped up in the business of packing and cleaning that they forget to notify Knox Hills administrators of their intention to move.

"Perhaps the biggest item that is forgotten is to provide a 30-day notice to vacate. Unfortunately, this can cause additional charges at move out," Wrobel said. "We recommend residents provide this notice as soon as they begin planning the move. The sooner we know, the better we can confirm move-out and transportation dates."

In addition to having the Knox Hills staff members ready to answer question and assist with planning, transitioning Families may also use the Knox Hills website to learn more about move-out requirements and to submit work orders for repairs.

"We suggest that residents review the Knox Hills move-out requirements found under Resident Resources at www.knoxhills.com/resident-resources … [We advise them to] make a list of any items in the home that might need attention and contact our maintenance office at (502) 799-6565 to have the items addressed."

According to Wrobel, the website also offers information about cleanliness standards and videos that illustrate a step-by-step process residents should follow to ensure military quarters are properly cleared and ready for the next Family.

"[These internet aids] will make the move-out experience smoother," said Wrobel, "It is a good practice to begin noting items that might need more than just a general clean -- like the interior of refrigerators and ovens … The video is a huge convenience to our residents.

"It even includes before-and-after photos so the resident can see the expectations."

Wrobel wants residents to know that the Knox Hills staff is there to ease the transition.

"We are here to help with the process, and we want to make their move-out process from Knox Hills as stress-free and easy as possible," said Wrobel. "It's never too early to begin this process."
