Fort Knox's Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month observance is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. May 31 in Sadowski Center on post.
Col. Christine Enriquez of U.S. Army Human Resources Command will speak at the event, with "unite our mission by engaging each other" as the theme. Vignettes of Asian Americans, to include Enriquez's father Nicolas D. Caburao, be will be featured. Caburao was a sailor who served two combat tours in Vietnam.
"My father raised me and instilled traditional Filipino values in me while helping me to appreciate being an American citizen," Enriquez said. "[He] is the reason I chose to serve in the U.S. Army."
The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend. Where mission permits, supervisors are encouraged to allow their Department of Defense employees to attend. When permission is granted, Sadowski Center will be considered the employee's place of duty. No leave will be charged for that time.
