ENTERTAINMENT & TRIPS

Disney's Alice in Wonderland, Jr.

May 5-12: Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; Sundays at 2 p.m., $12 adults/$10 youth

Soldiers' Theatre, Caserma Ederle

Travel down the rabbit hole and join Alice, one of literature's most beloved heroines, in her madcap adventures. Featuring updated songs from Disney's thrilling animated motion picture, Disney's "Alice in Wonderland JR." is a fast-paced take on the classic tale. Arezzo Antique Market

May 5, 5:30 a.m.-11 p.m., $90

ODR, Caserma Ederle

Visit the ancient Tuscan city of Arezzo with us and take in the antique market with its 500 exhibitors and roughly 100 smaller shops. The antique market has been an added incentive to this art-laden city since 1968. Every first Sunday of the month Piazza Grande is filled with a collection of antique furniture, paintings, silverware, old-fashioned telephones and more.

Wine Down Wednesday: Valpolicella

May 8, 8:15 a.m.-2 p.m., $75

Enjoy a truly wonderful tour and visit through the vineyards and cellars of a typical winery nestled in the heart of the Valpolicella. Enjoy a tour of the wine cellar followed by a walk through their production process, while hearing more about the history of the winery. After our tour, taste wine of four different types: Ca' del Magro (white); Valpolicella Ripasso (red); Amarone della Valpolicella (red); and Recioto, sweet wine.

Lucerne, Switzerland Express

Whether you take a voyage on one of the lakes paddle steam boats, check out the secret fortresses and hidden mountain tunnels, or enjoy a riverside meal, Lucerne is a destination to check off that bucket list. Quad biking on Mount Grappa

May 11, 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m./$120

ODR, Caserma Ederle

Explore historic Mount Grappa, overlooking nearby Bassano del Grappa, as the group heads over hardtop and off-road terrain in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) quadbike. Participants will explore World War I battlefields, caves and rough mountain terrain. Each person must complete the ATV safety briefing and practical test before hitting the trails (part of the itinerary) and bring valid SETAF license. Two persons per ATV.

Armed Forces Entertainment: Murder Mystery Tour

May 14, 7-9:30 p.m.

Lion's Den, upstairs in the Arena, Caserma Ederle

Armed Forces Entertainment and USAG Italy MWR are proud to present the "Best Laid Plans," part of the Murder Mystery Tour. Be ready to participate in this entertainment project where guests will be transformed into the victim or even possibly the killer at large. Four scenarios will be led by four different guides to solving the "who-done-it" mystery. No acting skills needed; just a sense of humor and willingness to participate. Free and open to ID cardholders.

Hawk Walk

May 15, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., $75

ODR, Caserma Ederle

Learn how to handle and fly a hawk, which will fly from tree to tree, in the Berici Hills. The hawk has been professionally trained to land on the participant's fist whenever invited by the instructor, a professional and competent falconer who will make this the experience of a lifetime.

Lake Bled & Vintgar Gorge, Slovenia

May 18, 5 a.m.-10 p.m., $105/$70/$15

One of the greatest Slovene poets, France Preseren, called Lake Bled the "second Garden of Eden." Just four kilometers away is Vintgar Gorge, the first intact natural gorge accessible to tourists. On this trip, the group will travel to the Lake Bled area via bus and begin the day exploring Vintgar Gorge. We will travel along the boardwalk through the gorge viewing the waterfalls and pools along the way. After the gorge, travel to the town of Bled on the shores of Lake Bled to spend the rest of the day enjoying free time. Spend it dining, people-watching, shopping or just exploring this beautiful landscape. Don't forget to have some of the famous Lake Bled cream cake! Bring your passport.

Asiago Bike Tour

May 18, 7 a.m-5 p.m., $75

The Asiago region is an Italian culinary and nature gem. Mix up your usual weekend routine and join Outdoor Recreation as they head to a local area to enjoy a scenic bike ride followed by a honey and cheese tasting. During the tour, participants will bike along Asiago's Old Railroad, taste honey and Asiago cheese, and learn about the region's World War I history. There will also be free time to explore the city center of Asiago at your own pace.

Spring Bazaar

May 19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Golden Lion Conference Center, Caserma Ederle

This community favorite brings vendors from different parts of Europe inside the gates to present their amazing gifts, ideas and food. A great event to attend with friends who enjoy shopping, wine and cheese tasting, and an opportunity to get to know some of the local vendors. Find cheese, chocolate, beer, wine, jewelry, art and more.

Berici Hills Donkey Hike

May 22, 8:15 a.m.-1:30 p.m., $55

ODR, Caserma Ederle

Rewind time a little as you go up Monte Berico on a pilgrimage-style trek alongside (not riding on) donkeys. The group will reach the hills of Vicenza in the morning to meet the instructor and the donkeys. After a short lesson about donkeys, their behavior and how to prepare them for a trek, the group will start an easy hike. You will walk with the donkeys and not on them like modern pilgrims. The spirit of this activity is to cooperate with donkeys and learn how empathetic they are -- while also having some fun. Walk in the beautiful countryside, passing through meadows, woods and picturesque mountain villages. At the end of the tour, stop in a local agriturismo to taste some typical food. Activity level is light: generally relaxed with brief moments of basic fitness required.

Munich, Germany Express

May 25, 3 a.m., $120/$95/$8/$15

ODR, Caserma Ederle

Travel to Munich and visit the Munich Residence, a palace that served as the seat of government in Bavaria from 1508 to 1918. The group will visit the museum portion of the Residence, where visitors can browse on their own or utilize a free audio tour in English. After the museum, there will be free time to spend in Munich before heading back to Vicenza. Tourist passport needed.

English as a Second Language

English as a Second Language introduces clients to the fundamentals of the English language. Participants can enjoy learning and speaking English together. Participants should expect: language fundamentals. Grammar, a friendly learning atmosphere, culture and classroom setting.

Doc Talk with Dr. Mieke VanderBorght

Every Tuesday through Sept. 10, 1-2 p.m.

ACS, Bldg. 108, Caserma Ederle

Join child development and parenting expert Dr. Mieke for a drop-in parenting clinic. Sessions will include rotating parental topics, followed by open-ended discussions and Q&A. Attendance is free, and no RSVP is required. Have small ones in tow? Bring them along. This is a recurring clinic and is free to participants.

Anger Management Class

May 7, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

ACS, Bldg. 108, Caserma Ederle

All community members are eligible to participate. This class will help you understand what anger can do to the body; how to recognize anger warning signs; and what to do when you get angry. No registration required.

Adult Art Night

May 9, 16 & 23, 5 p.m., $5

Arts & Crafts Center, Caserma Ederle

No artistic experience required, just come have fun and mingle with others while getting a little creative. Different projects will be on display each week for you to work on or you can dig into your own project. Cost included two hours of studio time. Some items may be purchased at an additional cost, to include pottery, canvases and wooden signs. Drop-ins welcome; no need to register.

Brews & Brushes

May 7, 6:30-9 p.m., $20

Lion's Den, upstairs at the Arena, Caserma Ederle

Simple step-by-step instructions will guide participants through painting with acrylics on a 30x40 cm canvas. Instruction, high quality acrylic paint and brushes will be provided by the Vicenza Art Center. Every participant will walk away with a completed canvas at the end of the evening. All materials are included. Register in advance at the Arts & Crafts Center or on WebTrac.

Breastfeeding Basics

Planning to breastfeed? Come and learn. A lactation consultant will walk you through the basics. Topics include benefits of breastfeeding, importance of colostrum, newborns and breastfeeding, frequency and duration of feedings, and more!

Families with children ages 2-4 years old are invited to attend this fun and energetic gross motor skills class. Classes will take place every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Classes include songs, structured schedule of events, physical activities and fun. Registration not required.

Stress Management Classes

Fill Your Toolbox

May 16, 1:10-2:10 p.m.

Elementary/Middle School Atrium, Villaggio

Take part in this free class to learn about stress and anger management. Family Advocacy welcomes parents and youth of elementary and middle school age to join them for a fun, hands-on activity that teaches a skill both parents and youth can use. Together, make a craft to use as a tool in your emotional regulation toolbox. No registration required.

Family Advocacy Program Annual Troop Training

May 16, 9-10 a.m.

Sigholtz Center, Caserma Del Din

Annual Troop Training familiarizes Soldiers with identification and reporting of:

• Domestic violence

• Prevention of family violence

• Identification and reporting of child abuse

• FAP education and prevention services

This training can assist commanders by increasing awareness of prevention and education resources for family violence. Commanders, sign up units by the 10th of the month of the training you wish to attend. Don't miss this convenient way to meet the annual training requirement for Family Advocacy Program. Family Advocacy Program Annual Command Team Training

May 16, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Sigholtz Center, Caserma Del Din

Command teams are required by Army Regulation 608-18 to receive FAP training within 45 days of taking command/responsibility and to ensure they renew that training annually. FAP is pleased to bring this training to the Sigholtz Center on Caserma Del Din (or contact FAP about personalized deskside training). Benvenuti Registration Opens

May 17, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Benvenuti is a welcome to new spouses to the Italian language, foods, a new city and much more. A great opportunity to network, meet other spouses and make friends while learning about Italy culture. The itinerary for Benvenuti looks like this:

Day 1: Learn some of the language and culture in a classroom; program information; and trip to San Bortolo Hospital downtown

Day 2: Receive a tour of downtown Vicenza and outdoor market

Day 3: Day trip to either Verona or Padova

Group Fitness Classes

The fitness centers have many classes to help community members get in shape. Open to all skill levels. Classes include Zumba, cycling, Taekwondo, yoga, power pump and many more. Cost is $5 per class or $35 for 10.

Youth Running Club

May 7, 9, 14 & 16, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Vicenza CYS Sports & Fitness, Bldg. 702, Villaggio

Ready... set ... run! This program is designed to teach correct running techniques in a team environment. Participants will need running shoes and athletic gear appropriate for outdoor and year-round running. The club is open to youth ages 6 to 18 years old who are registered with CYS. The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays through June.
