JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (April 12, 2019) -- More than 40 small business leaders took part in the Mission and Installation Contracting Command-Fort Drum and 925th Contracting Battalion Small Business Outreach Initiative at the North Country Procurement Technical Assistance Center April 3 in Watertown, New York.

Anthony Sligar, the MICC-Fort Drum deputy director, and Jennifer Earl-Schultheis, chief of business operations at MICC-Fort Drum, engaged with prospective small business leaders to share contact information and receive capabilities briefs. In the afternoon, they provided an overview of small business metric percentages, the total amount of dollars obligated toward small businesses, a listing of contract vehicles that small businesses can gain access to (blanket purchase agreements and sub-contracting opportunities), and, most importantly, an overview of upcoming contracting opportunities over the next five years.

"It was a great venue for the 925th CBN and MICC-Fort Drum to help identify new small businesses and provide some guidance and education to the local community on working with and responding to requests for quotes, proposals and invitations for bids," said Lt. Col. Jessie Griffith, the 925th CBN and MICC-Fort Drum commander. "This was an outstanding stage to continue to build the foundation of our community outreach and allows Fort Drum to ensure dollars are returned to the local community."

The PTAC is a marketing and technical assistance program for small businesses in the Fort Drum area. They provide no-cost assistance to businesses seeking to identify available contracting opportunities within the military, federal, state and local government markets.

MICC acquisition outreach events like this one take place at most of the command's 30 locations. American small businesses bring a multitude of skill sets, equipment and capabilities to support, sustain and strengthen readiness initiative objectives through Army contracting. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, small businesses are persistent job creators, topping large businesses job creation in 15 of the last 20 quarters by creating two out of three new jobs over the last five years.
