REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Nov. 29, 2018) -- Fourteen organizations received recognition at this year's Value Engineering-Life Cycle Cost Reduction awards ceremony Nov. 28 at the Bob Jones Auditorium on Redstone Arsenal. The event was organized by the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command and the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command, Aviation and Missile, also known as AMRDEC.

The goal of the Value Engineering program is ultimately to save money through innovative efforts in redesigning existing parts, systems, or processes. "In [the] current unpredictable resource-constrained environment that we operate in, it's absolutely critical that we optimize those resources we do have. Value engineering is one way we can do just that," said William Marriott, AMCOM deputy to the commanding general and keynote speaker.

This year, the program reached a new high of 95 projects which had at least one benefit in addition to cost savings. AMRDEC was one of the 14 organizations who surpassed VE monetary goals this year.

"I am truly proud of the fact that AMRDEC plays such a critical role in helping the Army and AMCOM in this very critical area," said Dr. Juanita Christensen, AMRDEC executive director. "Of the 95 Value Engineering proposals for FY18, AMRDEC direct efforts were attributed to 79 of those proposals." A savings of more than $68 million was seen as a direct result of those 79 projects.

Col. Eric Rannow, AMRDEC military deputy, accepted a VE plaque on behalf of Dr. Christensen and the organization. A number of AMRDEC employees were recipients of awards during the ceremony.
