Fort Knox and U.S. Army Cadet Command Commander Maj. Gen. John Evans Jr. has declared April 7-13 as National Volunteer Week at the central Kentucky Army post.

During the week, officials from the Fort Knox Army Volunteer Corps Program will host three events, which will culminate April 10 with the annual Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Ceremony, held at Sadowski Center, beginning at 6 p.m. This year's theme is "Army Volunteers: The Heart of the Army Community."

"Volunteers are one of the Army's most valuable resources," wrote Evans, in the proclamation. "They are thoughtful, committed citizens who support and change our military communities by responding to a need. They truly impact America, with their selfless actions, enduring support, faithful dedication, and lifelong commitment."

The public is invited to attend the volunteer of the year ceremony.
