INDIANAPOLIS--One of United States Army Financial Management Command's key missions is to train financial management Soldiers and Civilians to become subject-matter experts in their fields. USAFMCOM's E-Commerce Division recently trained two of these individuals to assume critical roles in the Army's Soldier Support Institute and in the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.
Staff Sgt. Jaemin Park, a new lead systems integration non-commissioned officer from the SSI, spent a week at USAFMCOM's headquarters in Indianapolis honing information technology skills with Karl "Mac" McFarland, a Systems/IT Analyst for USAFMCOM's E-Commerce Division. Together they conducted Financial Management Tactical Platform reviews and installation, configuration, lab setup and sustainment and troubleshooting training.
"I have been getting a lot of tips from Mac, especially techniques on how to set up and fix simple issues that some finance Soldiers may either not know or have the knowledge to fix," Park said. "I think it is very important to pass this info on to finance Soldiers and IT personnel in finance units so they can provide the best support to Soldiers down-range in large scale combat operations."
The training also included image laydown onto new FMTP laptops and the installation and integration of financial management boundary applications such as Deployable Disbursing System, EagleCash and OTCnet.
With training completed Park will be instrumental in establishing and sustaining an instructional lab environment for all of the Army's institutionalized financial management courses, such as Advanced Individual Training, Advanced Leader Courses, Senior Leader Courses, Basic Officer Leaders Courses or Captains Career Courses.
Park will also be able to enhance and maintain a realistic culminating training exercise environment to challenge those newly developed skills in financial management Soldiers.
Down the hall, the Army's Stored Value Card Program Manager, Tony Taylor, and other members of the E-Commerce Sustainment Team spent the week training Dolores Markle-Musquez.
Markle-Musquez currently works as a Field Support Accountant for AAFES headquarters in Dallas but recently volunteered for a yearlong deployment to Southwest Asia. Her duties there as the AAFES U.S. Central Command manager will include managing day-to-day settlement and accounting operations as well as acting as the lead for all AAFES EagleCash operations in theater.
"This training provides a comprehensive overview of the program as well as a technical curriculum that imbues the recipient with the competence and understanding to manage the system in a contingency environment," Taylor said.
The training included program and agency overviews, managing system and Stored Value Card Portal access, settlement and reconciliation procedures, shipments and asset management training. Other topics included wellness operations, AAFES EagleCash refund processes, AAFES Imprest Fund Activity kits and operations, risk and fraud compliance and customer service center training.
During the training USAFMCOM's commanding general, Maj. Gen. David Coburn, recognized both Markle-Musquez and Park for their commitment to taking care of Soldiers while in theater.
