ENTERTAINMENT & TRIPS

Art Center's Artist of the Month

April 4, 5-7 p.m.

Arts & Crafts Center, Caserma Ederle

Head into the Art Center to enjoy an evening checking out the works of the latest featured local artist. Chat with artists in the community and learn more about the Art Center and what it has to offer. Light snacks will be provided. Call 0444-61-7846 for more information.

Rome Express

April 6, 3 a.m., $110/$70/$55/$15

ODR, Caserma Ederle

Modern and old, past and present go side-by-side in Rome, a city rich with history and culture. Rome is one of the most visited cities in the world and is an absolute must-see while in Italy.

Rome wasn't built in a day so you won't be able to see it all in one, but you can certainly try! In Rome Express, participants will be free to explore the historic city on their own. Choose which sites to visit and tours to take to do as much -- or as little -- as you please. This trip is a great way to get a taste of Rome. Cost includes transportation only; bring euro for purchases. The bus returns to Vicenza at approximately 3 a.m. April 7.

Rafting & Biking on the Sile River

April 6, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., $95

ODR, Caserma Ederle

Head to the Sile River in nearby Treviso. Enjoy a relaxed, easy rafting trip through beautiful countryside. After rafting, participants will be able to enjoy biking along local trails before returning to Vicenza. Please note: Participants must be able to swim.

Outlet Mall Shopping Trip

Head off with Outdoor Recreation for a great designer name outlet mall situated right here in the Veneto. Cost includes transportation. Bring money for shopping and wear comfortable shoes.

Hawk Walk

April 10, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., $75

ODR, Caserma Ederle

During the Hawk Walk, in the Berici Hills, learn how to handle and fly a hawk, which will fly from tree to tree. The hawk has been professionally trained to land on your fist whenever invited by the instructor, a professional and competent falconer who will make this the experience of a lifetime. Price includes transportation, instruction, time working with hawk, brunch with local wines and a trip facilitator. Activity level is very light; appropriate for people of all levels. Make sure to wear activity-appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes.

Small Dolomites Hike

April 13, 5 a.m.-6:30 p.m./$65

Depart from Caserma Ederle and Caserma Del Din, and head into the nearby Dolomites for a gorgeous hike. The 3 � hour hike will be followed with lunch (not included) and then return to Vicenza. Activity level is labeled "vigorous," very active and recommended for physically prepared participants. Bring hiking boots!

Milan & The Last Supper

Milan, a metropolis in Italy's northern Lombardy region, is a global capital of fashion and design. Home to the national stock exchange, it's a financial hub also known for high-end dining and shopping, as well as Milan Fashion Week. It's also home to the gothic Duomo di Milano cathedral, the fourth largest cathedral in the world; and the Santa Maria delle Grazie church/convent housing Leonardo da Vinci's fresco "The Last Supper." The trip includes entrance fee to see the fresco and guided tour of the city.

Tattoo Expo in Ljubljana, Slovenia

April 13, 7 a.m.-11:30 p.m., $100 and €10 for expo fee

Head off to the capital city of Slovenia and visit this amazing tattoo expo. Artists from all over the country will converge to show off their skills. Visitors can even plan to get a tattoo done while they're there. Don't forget your tourist passport.

Dusty Saddle Boys - Back in the Saddle

Join a Spring Break celebration with the Dusty Saddle Boys, live country rock music. There will be line dancing and much more.

Nice, France Express Trip

April 20, 3 a.m., $115

ODR, Caserma Ederle

Explore the beautiful city of Nice in the center of the French Riviera. There will be a tour guide for four hours and about five hours of free time. Enjoy shopping, exploring the beautiful seashore area of the French Riviera, history in the Cathédrale Orthodoxe Russe Saint-Nicolas and much more. Estimated return is 3 a.m., April 21.

Via Ferrata: Contrabbandieri at Lake Garda

April 20, 6 a.m-5 p.m., $95

Enjoy this day trip to a place that overlooks beautiful Lake Garda. Translated, a "via ferrata" means "iron path." A ferrata is a fantastic fusion of hiking and climbing where a hiking path will occasionally give way to an area that can only be passed by clipping into a metal cable or steel ladder. This route will take hikers along the lake with some great views and sheer cliffs. Once there, participants will be provided with all necessary gear, to include helmet, harness and lanyards. Bring proper hiking clothing, a good pair of hiking boots and backpack with food and drink. Adults 18 and older only; trip is limited to 15 people.

Eggstravaganza

April 20, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Turf Field behind Ederle Inn, Caserma Ederle

Join the fun at the Vicenza Military Community's annual Eggstravaganza. This is a wildly popular seasonal event for the entire family. Children ages 0-10 years will enjoy gathering 10,000+ candy-filled eggs, a bouncy house and much more. Free to U.S. and Italian employee ID cardholders. Egg hunt begins at noon; categories are 0-3 years old, 3-5 years, 6-7 years, and 8-10 years. The Arena will be open for specials in support of the event. No pets, please.

Postojna Caves and Predjama Castle, Slovenia

April 27, 7 a.m.-9 p.m., $115/$73/$15

The Postojna cave system covers more than 21 kilometers and features amazing formations made from constantly dripping water. While some tunnels are flooded and unable to be entered without special equipment, the group will be touring some other great caves in the system and taking in the beautiful sights. It's chilly -- bring a warm jacket! For a turn above ground, the trip also includes a visit to Predjama Castle, an impregnable fortress built out of the mountain itself. This centuries-old castle is full of history and the perfect way to finish off your day in Slovenia. Bring your passport.

It's time to clean the house and get rid of those items you've been holding onto for years. This is your opportunity to make some cash while making room for your newly bought items from Italy and the rest of Europe.

Interested in selling items? Cost is $10 for parking space and $10Here are the guidelines:

• Sellers must be U.S. ID card holders

• Reserve early -- space is limited

• Paid reservations are first-come, first-choice of spaces

• Limit one parking slot per family

• Only used items can be sold

• New items must have all tags removed and be sold under the suggested price

• No sales of multiple new, handcrafted or hobby items are permitted

• No walking-around sales are permitted -- you must have a paid space

• Items can be unloaded from vehicles to spaces beginning at 8 a.m.

• Teardown begins at 3 p.m.

• Sellers must remove all trash and unsold items from their space and vacate the lot by 4 p.m.

• Personal sales area cannot exceed 6 feet beyond the end of the marked parking lines

• No vehicles will be allowed to park within the flea market area

• Family and MWR reserves the right to revoke and evict without refund violators of the Flea Market rules

• If you do not show up, you forfeit any paid fees

• Depending on weather, this event may not be suitable for children or pets

• No alternate locations in the event of bad weather

Volterra and San Gimignano

May 4, 5 a.m.-10 p.m., $95/$65/$15

ODR, Caserma Ederle

Enjoy a chance to wander the streets of a small Etruscan settlement in San Gimignano and Volterra. A lively town in the Middle Ages, San Gimignano served as a urban center for the area. This town's beautiful medieval architecture is sure to send visitors back in time. After arriving at our destination, the group will link up with a tour guide for a three-hour walking tour. Participants will enjoy a variety of amazing sights and locations, and a magnificent view of the valley. Heading towards the center, there is an opportunity to admire real Etruscan urns stuck in the walls of a former residence. After a walk to the highest point of the town, there will be free time and a lunch break.

Breastfeeding Basics

Planning to breastfeed? Come and learn. A lactation consultant will walk you through the basics. Topics include benefits of breastfeeding, importance of colostrum, newborns and breastfeeding, frequency and duration of feedings, and more!

Families with children ages 2-4 years old are invited to attend this fun and energetic gross motor skills class. Classes will take place every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Classes include songs, structured schedule of events, physical activities and fun. Registration not required.

Doc Talk with Dr. Mieke VanderBorght

Every Tuesday through Sept. 10, 1-2 p.m.

ACS, Bldg. 108, Caserma Ederle

Join child development and parenting expert Dr. Mieke for a drop-in parenting clinic. Sessions will include rotating parental topics, followed by open-ended discussions and Q&A. Attendance is free, and no RSVP is required. Have small ones in tow? Bring them along. This is a recurring clinic and is free to participants.

Stress Management Classes

Learn how to recognize signs of stress and how to train yourself to lower stress levels. No registration required. All community members are eligible to participate in this class.

English as a Second Language

English as a Second Language introduces clients to the fundamentals of the English language. Participants can enjoy learning and speaking English together. Participants should expect: language fundamentals. Grammar, a friendly learning atmosphere, culture and classroom setting.

Adult Art Night

April 11, 18, 25 and May 2, 9, 16 & 23, 5 p.m., $5

Arts & Crafts Center, Caserma Ederle

No artistic experience required, just come have fun and mingle with others while getting a little creative. Different projects will be on display each week for you to work on or you can dig into your own project. Cost included two hours of studio time. Some items may be purchased at an additional cost, to include pottery, canvases and wooden signs. Drop-ins welcome; no need to register.

Infant Massage Class

Join the New Parent Support Program at ACS for this exciting chance to bond with your infant. Instruction is available to parents of children 5 weeks old to crawling. Fill Your Toolbox

April 18, 1:10-2:10 p.m.

Elementary/Middle School Atrium, Villaggio

Take part in this free class to learn about stress and anger management. Family Advocacy welcomes parents and youth of elementary and middle school age to join them for a fun, hands-on activity that teaches a skill both parents and youth can use. Together, make a craft to use as a tool in your emotional regulation toolbox. No registration required.

Benvenuti Registration Opens

April 19, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Benvenuti is a welcome to new spouses to the Italian language, foods, a new city and much more. A great opportunity to network, meet other spouses and make friends while learning about Italy culture. The itinerary for Benvenuti looks like this:

Day 1: Learn some of the language and culture in a classroom; program information; and trip to San Bortolo Hospital downtown

Day 2: Receive a tour of downtown Vicenza and outdoor market

Day 3: Day trip to either Verona or Padova

SPORTS & FITNESS

CYS Tennis Enrollment

Through April 12, $45

Parent Central Services, Caserma Ederle

Get your youth involved in tennis this spring. Lessons will be taught by trained volunteer coaches and will teach fundamentals or sharpen previously developed skills. Youth will have fun and improve their fitness and performance with CYS. For youth ages 6-15 years old. Lessons will take place each Monday and Wednesday from April 22 to May 31, and all equipment will be provided. All skill levels welcome. Enroll at Parent Central Services or on WebTrac.

*Track & Field enrollment is also taking place at this time.

Group Fitness Classes

The fitness centers have many classes to help community members get in shape. Open to all skill levels. Classes include Zumba, cycling, Taekwondo, yoga, power pump and many more. Cost is $5 per class or $35 for 10.

Youth Running Club

April 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 and May 2, 7, 9, 14 & 16, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Vicenza CYS Sports & Fitness, Bldg. 702, Villaggio

Ready... set ... run! This program is designed to teach correct running techniques in a team environment. Participants will need running shoes and athletic gear appropriate for outdoor and year-round running. The club is open to youth ages 6 to 18 years old who are registered with CYS. The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays through June.

BOSS Stretching & Body Alignment

April 13, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Fitness Center, Caserma Ederle

Maximize your stretching with BOSS; flexible muscles are resilient muscles! This BOSS-specific class will amplify range of motion, increase mobility, enhance posture, maximize performance, strengthen your core and improve your overall alignment. Maximum of eight participants. Must be a member of Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers to participate.
