In response to this year's National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month, Fort Knox officials are publishing a poster at various times throughout April to remind personnel to look out for the well-being of military children.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that one in four children have experienced abuse or neglect at some point in their lives. In 2017 alone, child protective services across the United States identified approximately 674,000 children as victims of child abuse or neglect.
The posters, generated by Military OneSource, offer reflection on some of the difficulties and challenges the children face.
Fort Knox officials are urging community members to get involved if they have concerns or know of a child that is being neglected or abused by contacting the Family Advocacy Program at (502) 624-6291, the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at (800) 422-4453, or Military OneSource at (800) 342-9647. They can also visit the Military OneSource website (see below).
