FORT STEWART, Ga. - Soldiers from 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, and local police officers came together to honor all who have fallen in the line of duty during a veterans Memorial Day ceremony held at Richmond Hill's J. F. Gregory Park, May 20.

"We enjoy our freedoms because of the men and women who knew the dangers they faced," said Paul Spence, representative from Vietnam Veterans of America. "We as a nation can never forget the sacrifices they have made."

Members from local veteran associations as well as 2nd HBCT Commander, Col. Charles E.A. Sexton, and the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd HBCT, Color Guard gave remarks honoring all brothers in arms, servicemembers and police who sacrificed for this nation.

"It is the strength from our communities that bond us together," said Col. Sexton. "That is why it is our responsibility to never forget and to continue to give strength and support to our Soldiers overseas, and the police on the street."

The ceremony honoring fallen military and police officers concluded with a wreath laying ceremony and benediction at the veterans' memorial at J.F. Gregory Park.

"To forget those who have sacrificed everything for this nation, military and police officer(s), is not only a dishonor to those who have given everything, but a dishonor to ourselves," said Lt. Col (Ret.) Doug Andrews. "Those who have served know the sacrifice was not made for the nation or those back home; it was for those fighting by your side - your brothers in arms."
