Fort Knox, Ky. -- Women from throughout Fort Knox and the local area are invited to attend a Leadership Forum, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., March 27 at the Saber and Quill. Hosted by the U.S. Army 3rd Recruiting Brigade, the forum will focus on the promotion of women to senior leadership positions both within the Army and the civilian work place.
Round table discussion, led by Col. (Ret.) Jo Rusin (author of "Move to the Front," and "Women on Your Team") and other women professionals, will focus on women's work place topics, to include: work-life integration, unconscious bias, overcoming stereo types, and relationships in the work place.
Brig. Gen. Jill Faris, Deputy Surgeon General for the Army National Guard, will also talk about career progression through the ranks.
"The intent is to facilitate discussion among women professionals and to enable participants with tactics to overcome barriers to achieve career success," said Capt. Melissa Miller, 3rd Recruiting Brigade Event Coordinator.
According to Col. Eric Lopez, 3rd Recruiting Brigade commander, the Women's Leadership Forum falls in line with the U.S. Army's progressive stance to lean forward on matters of social change.
"People don't often think of the Army as being progressive," Lopez said, "but, the Army has always led the way in diversity, to include the integration of African Americans into the military."
"We want to do the same thing when it comes to integrating more women into positions of senior leadership within the Army (and by extension, the civilian sector)," Lopez said. "This forum is about identifying and facilitating a path for women to excel."
Additionally, Lopez said, the forum will help identify and provide open discussion about overcoming traditional hindrances to women as senior leaders that exist from family members, spouses, and community.
