Recently, a Mobile Training Team (MTT) from the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center -- Training's (CAC-T) Training Management Directorate (TMD), conducted a Digital Training Management System (DTMS) Operator's Course for 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

The learning objectives for students during the operators course were to (1) develop a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the DTMS user, (2) articulate the capabilities and functions of DTMS to their respective unit leaders, (3) develop the skills necessary to manage and use DTMS at the unit level, (4) understand the impact of Training Management on the unit, and (5) understand Department of the Army DTMS recording requirements and the tools and methods available to the operator to meet these.

"DTMS has multiple ways of doing tasks within it," says Terry Seal, TMD Mobile Training Team instructor. "What we try to encourage units to do is establish an SOP for their organizations to capitalize on DTMS's capabilities to assist with Unit Training Management.

On Jan. 10 TMD released the new Training and Readiness Dashboard pages within DTMS. These upgrades provide brigade and below users the ability to directly access, review and manage most of their organization's required reportable training data in a single location.

Currently DTMS is the only authorized system for recording training and assessments of Army units and Soldiers.

Proof of Concept

During the operator's course, Soldiers assigned Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 74D, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Specialist were a key training audience. Nineteen MOS 74D Soldiers, were specifically assigned to 2nd BCT, 1st ID to be trained on the use of DTMS.

These Soldiers will serve as proof of concept (POC) to determine whether reintegrating company clerks closes the training management/CBRN gaps and improves readiness in BCTs. This concept is in its initial stages and will ultimately serve to inform leadership of the effectiveness of the Force Design Update (FDU) to close the training management and CBRN gaps and contribute to building readiness within the BCTs.
