VICENZA, Italy (Jan. 14, 2018) -- Although tax law can be complicated, especially with new tax legislation -- the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act -- Vicenza Tax Center's trained tax preparers will help direct eligible clients through the forest of regulations and forms, making the process easier to understand and less stressful.

The Vicenza Tax Center is part of the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Tax Assistance Program, or VITA, and provides free tax advice, tax preparation, return filing and other tax assistance to eligible Soldiers, civilian employees, retirees and their family members.

Volunteer preparers at military-based VITA sites are taught to address military-specific tax issues. They receive training and certification by the IRS. With limited funding and resources, it is important that U.S. Army Europe tax centers focus on those eligible customers who need these services most. Tax centers across U.S. Army Europe will adhere to the limitations under the VITA program and applicable Army Regulation.

As a result, only Department of Defense ID cardholders making less than $54,000 are eligible to receive tax preparation and filing services at USAREUR tax centers, including the Vicenza Tax Center. Tax center personnel are also unable to prepare Schedule D (Capital Gains and Loss) returns, returns that include more than one rental property, the sale of more than five assets (stocks), or returns that exclude foreign earned income under the tax treaty between the United States and Italy.

The main Vicenza Tax Center is located in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate on Caserma Ederle, Building 166. Beginning Jan. 28, the center will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. The satellite location at Caserma Del Din will be located in the Company Operations Building, Building 50. The Del Din Tax Center will be open every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m.

Anyone with questions about eligibility for services or how the various tax rules apply to a specific situation, the trained, knowledgeable and IRS-certified tax personnel will be happy to meet to discuss individual/family circumstances.
