A rainy day did not keep people away today from paying respects this holiday season to military veterans and their families who have since passed and are interred at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery - Central in Radcliff, Kentucky. More than 1,200 volunteer wreath layers and relatives of the veterans visited the cemetery in the morning and laid a live wreath at each gravestone - more than 6,000 in all.

"I truly believe we have a moral obligation to honor our vets, that duty doesn't end when their service ends. Nor does it end when they depart this earth," said Maj. Gen. John Evans Jr., keynote speaker at the Wreaths Across America event at KVC-C. "Your presence here today signals that you've chosen to be their witness to honor, remember and teach."

Wreaths Across America spearheaded the event, and its mission aims to show veterans and their families that the American public will never forget their sacrifices. Vine Grove resident Donna Betson has led the WAA event at KVC-C for several years, and the WAA official site states that more than 1,400 wreath-laying ceremonies are occurring across the United States this year.

"These veterans share a parallel character trait that far outweighs their differences. They each answered the call, valiantly agreeing to put their lives on the line for our nation," Evans said.
