FORT SILL, Oklahoma (Nov. 29, 2018) -- A new restaurant at the Fort Sill Main Exchange food court offers a completely nutritious menu keeping in line with the Army's holistic approach to Soldier readiness.
The Muscle Maker Grill held a grand opening Nov. 21. It's the first Muscle Maker Grill in Oklahoma.
At the opening, PX patrons were invited to sample wraps and smoothies.
"It's amazing," said patron Renée Cooper, of the Santa Fe wrap. "It's really good, and it tastes like regular food, not 'healthy food.'" She added that she would be coming back.
Maj. Gen. Wilson A. Shoffner, Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill commanding general, along with Mike Roper, Muscle Maker Grill chief executive officer; and Don Walter Jr., Fort Sill Exchange general manager, cut the ribbon to open the grill.
Shoffner said Muscle Maker Grill's nutritious menu gives Soldiers and families another option for healthy eating.
"An important component of Soldier readiness is the idea of holistic health and fitness," the general said. "It's more than just physical fitness, it's getting enough sleep, it's eating right."
Muscle Maker Grill is not just great tasting food, it's food that's healthy, said Roper, who made the trip from Dallas.
"Everything on our menu is healthy, whether it is grass-fed lean beef, all-natural chicken, turkey bacon, kale, and quinoa," Roper said.
Muscle Maker Grill also offers meal plans for five, 10, 15, and 20 meals, which allows diners to customize a daily schedule of premade meals, Ropers said.
"You pick the meals you want, we make them for you, and you throw them in your refrigerator, and when you're ready to eat you just micro-wave them for a couple minutes," he said. Muscle Maker Grill also offers complete catering services for events like meetings, weddings, fundraisers, and festivals.
Walter said having a Muscle Maker Grill in the food court was a fantastic choice for AAFES.
AAFES is an active partner in the Healthy Army Communities Initiative with the opening of the third Muscle Maker Grill, Walter said. "Healthy is definitely the way to go."
Fort Sill Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Jonathan Lutgens attended the grand opening. He said the new grill gives Soldiers more variety for their eating options.
"I'm happy we have Muscle Maker Grill here, and I hope we get more growth with things like this," he said.
Lutgens said he had eaten at the grill since its soft opening Nov. 7. He had the Godfather fit bowl of chicken, Portobella mushrooms, roasted red peppers, part skim mozzarella, and fat-free balsamic vinaigrette over broccoli. "It was great."
Construction for the grill began the third week of September, said Kenn Miller, Muscle Maker Grill chief operating officer.
"It could not have gone smoother. We opened on time, and under budget," Miller said. "Everyone working here has been fantastic: the facilities folks, and AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service)." The grill employees 25 people.
Muscle Maker Grill also has locations at Fort Benning, Ga., where a second grill is about to open, and at Fort Bliss, Texas, Miller said. Muscle Maker Grill is opening soon at Fort Bragg, N.C.
