CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea -- Soldiers with 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division volunteered at Humphreys Central Elementary School movie night Nov. 14.

The volunteers served food, drinks, and popcorn to Soldiers and their families who attended Humphreys Central Elementary School's movie night as part of their Parent Teacher Student Organization meeting.

"I think it's important for us to reach back and serve, not only in the military, but serve within our organizations," said 1st Lt. Tiara B. Tompkins, a Brooklyn, New York native, and human resources manager, 3rd ABCT, 1st AD. "I always enjoy helping out in the community. With our unit being the rotational brigade, it was a great opportunity to support the PTSO."

Jackie Williams, a native of Madison, Alabama, and Humphreys Central Elementary PTSO president, applies the same positive childhood experiences that left an impression on her and implements them in the PTSO program.

"I remember…when my parents came to the PTSO meetings," said Williams. "We're trying to piggy back off the school's family events, because we are a family here at Central."

PTSO meetings are held once a month for parents to gather information on upcoming events.

"In an effort to get the families to come we've tagged teamed with family events," says Williams. "If there is something happening at the school, and your kids are involved… people are more likely to come."

The event created an opportunity for rotational brigade Soldiers to immerse themselves into the community.

"I think it's been great that we've also been able to tag team with service units within the garrison," said Williams. "It kind of makes them feel part of the family here when they volunteer their time."
