FORT KNOX, Kentucky -- Fort Knox students from Van Voorhis Elementary School participated in several observances and activities throughout the week of Oct. 22-26 in support of Red Ribbon Week.

The week started with a Rally in Red Day, in which students and staff wore red in celebration of the weeklong festivities, and will culminate Friday with "Team Up Against Drugs," where students, staff and faculty are encouraged to sport their favorite college team T-shirts and sweatshirts.

"We believe that it is important to teach our students to be responsible in making healthy life choices," wrote Brenda Tucker, a guidance counselor at the school, in an information sheet. "Red Ribbon Week is a great opportunity to educate our students about the danger of using illegal drugs."

The school also combined the effort with Bully Prevention Month, focusing on the color orange Oct. 24 in support of Unity Day, which is designed to encourage kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
