Wounded Warriors and their Families from the Fort Gordon and Fort Jackson, S.C. areas are being offered a free vacation weekend Aug. 14.

The South Carolina National Guard, the Soldier Family Assistance Center and the American Red Cross are offering Wounded Warriors and their Family members a weekend of relaxation and enjoyable activities.

This Wounded Warrior Retreat is designed to promote healing, foster Family cohesion and play a part in the recovery process.

"This retreat is a tribute to the sacrifices that our Soldiers and their Family members have endured through the hardship of combat; and we endeavor that this retreat will be refreshing and renewing both personally and professionally" said Col. Clarence Browser, South Carolina National Guard Family Programs director.

Bethel Woods Lake Lodges and Camp Grounds offer a haven of tranquility for the Wounded Warriors and their Family members. Sponsors say the vacation weekend is designed to be relaxing and filled with fun activities for the entire Family. Such activities include but are not limited to; canoeing, swimming, rock wall climbing, fishing and many more. "Bethel Woods is honored and proud to host such an event for these special Families and to provide them with an opportunity to benefit from our recreational and relaxing facilities," said Keith Newman, Bethel Woods Camp and Conference Center executive director.

The approach to this event is simple, giving back to those who gave.

"I am excited for the Wounded Warriors and their Family members with this opportunity to remove themselves from the day to day rituals and to have a break where they can enjoy the serenity that this retreat will provide," said Jesse Deberry, Fort Jackson Soldier Family Assistance Center director.
