FORT SILL, Oklahoma (Oct. 11, 2018) -- Around 300 Special Olympics students from the Oklahoma Great Plains area counties, including: Harmon, Greer, Kiowa, Comanche, Stephens, Jefferson, Cotton, Tillman, and Jackson, participated in two lively bowling sessions at the Twin Oaks Bowling Center (TOBC) on post Oct. 5.

Roughly 25 grade, middle, and high schools converged at the bowling alley. Parents, guardians and school employees also attended, which made for a packed facility. TOBC hosted the event, which as organizers explained, helps qualify participants to compete in winter and summer Special Olympics bowling games.

Youth had to pre register as well as fill out medical release forms.

"It gives (youth bowlers) a chance to feel good about themselves, and everyone gets a ribbon," said Donna sparks, Great Plains area regional Special Olympics director.

"The kids come out and have a great time, even for a small score," said Kelly Wright, TOBC manager. Judging from the laughter and cheering, that appeared the case.

One father, Jimmy Roggenburk, assisted and coached his two sons, Eli and Zachary Miller, as they bowled. Both middle-school aged children appeared excited to participate.

Lawton schools that participated in the fun outing included: Eisenhower, Lawton and MacArthur Senior High; Central, Eisenhower, MacArthur and Tomlinson Middle; and Adams, Carriage, Cleveland and Pioneer Park Elementary.
