FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii - U.S. Army Pacific held a Celebration of Service ceremony, Oct. 3, 2018, at historic Palm Circle on Fort Shafter, Hawaii. Fellow Soldiers, family, and friends gathered to pay tribute to the USARPAC Soldiers as they prepare to retire from the service.

Maj. Gen. Pete Johnson, USARPAC deputy commanding general-south, was the host, and said it was a privilege to be a part of the ceremony, and celebrate the Soldiers combined 116 years of service to the nation.

"Today it is my honor to participate in this celebration of service where we pause to recognize the distinguished and selfless service of four Soldiers," said Johnson. "(Soldiers) who in their own way not only answered the call to duty, but who dedicated themselves to our profession of Arms and its higher purpose."

The USARPAC retirees honored were: Lt. Col. Antonio Copeland, Command Sgt. Maj. David Glenn,

Sgt. Maj. Enoel Santiago, and Master Sgt. Jose Aranda.

Johnson highlighted the accomplishments of the Soldiers during their careers, and thanked them for their sacrifices while they served their nation.

"They have done what few do, sacrificing their time and love to our Army," said Johnson. "An Army that defends an idea; not a dictator, monarch, mother or father land, or any other potentate, but an idea embodied in the constitution of our United States of America, providing for the common defense, so that we might all enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

USARPAC's Celebration of Service ceremony recognizes Soldiers for exceptional service to U.S. Army Pacific and the nation as they prepare to transition into new careers. During the ceremony, Soldiers receive awards, certificates of retirement, and are presented with the U.S. Flag in honor of their service to the nation.
