The 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command honored its senior-most enlisted advisor, Command Sgt. Maj. Maurice V. Chaplin, during his Relinquishment of Responsibility Ceremony Sept. 28, 2018 at Camp Walker, Daegu, Republic of Korea.

Chaplin assumed responsibility of the 19th ESC on Aug.15, 2017 and has recently been selected to serve as the command sergeant major for the 8th Theater Sustainment Command at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

The 19th ESC is known as "Team 19," and Chaplin was thankful for his experiences and Team 19's Community Alliance events and partnership activities with the Greater Daegu and Area IV community.

"I want to thank the community for the ease of cultural adaption," said Chaplin. "They have made it easy to fall in love with the Daegu community!"

Chaplin has extensive Army leadership experience, and shared some of his advice and thoughts as he stepped away from Team 19.

Chaplin said, "It's not about what you don't know. It's about what you do with what you know!," and adding to that, he said, "Trust is earned, not given!"

On October 2nd of this year, Chaplin will celebrate his 29th year of Army service.

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Chaplin graduated from William M. Raines High School in 1989 and joined the Army that same year.

Chaplin's Army career has carried him to many duty stations throughout the world. Among them are Germany, Korea, Japan, Hawaii, Kansas, Texas, North Carolina and Georgia.

A multi-faceted logistics expert, Chaplin deployed many times during his career charting back to the early '90s when he deployed in support of the Gulf War.

Chaplin is a highly-decorated Soldier who has earned the Order of Saint Barbara and membership in the coveted Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. He's also applied himself academically throughout his career earning an Associate's, a Bachelor's, and a Master's Degree.

The commander of the 19th ESC, Brig. Gen. Michel M. Russell, Sr., said he will miss Chaplin's advice, friendship and counsel, but knows Chaplin was selected for the 8th TSC leadership position because of his leadership talents and abilities.
