Department of Defense Expeditionary Civilian (DOC-EC) Richard Belanger was awarded the Commander's Award for Civilian Service, NATO Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and Wartime Service certificate for his service in Afghanistan during a ceremony Sept. 17.

Area Support Group-Afghanistan (ASG-A) Commander Col. Jacob Peterson presented Belanger the awards at the command headquarters on Bagram Airfield.

Belanger was assigned to ASG-A on a year-long deployment through the DOD-EC Program, which deploys personnel to support military operations. Before redeploying to the United States in September 2018, he served as an electrician and O&M lead for the Directorate of Public Works at Bagram.

Peterson said Belanger's dedication helped ASG-A successfully accomplish its mission. ASG-A

provides everything from billeting, laundry and food service to public works and quality of life support to more than 35,000 personnel throughout the Combined Joint Operations Area-Afghanistan (CJOA-A). That personnel includes U.S. military, DOD Civilians, Contractors and Coalition Forces who are contributing to Resolute Support, the NATO-led, non-combat mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).
