SCHINNEN, The Netherlands -- The U.S. Army prepares our communities today for the

hazards of tomorrow. Emergency situations can happen when one least expects it.

September is National Preparedness Month, and it was an opportune time to refine team members' skills in handling crisis situations.

To assess their capabilities and test the Emergency Services readiness, USAG Benelux at Schinnen conducted a Force Protection Exercise Sept. 10. Since Schinnen has no fire department on base, the local fire department participated as they would do in a real-life situation. A "fire" with lots of smoke was set in the bowling center. Three people were role played victims who were wounded and overcome by the smoke.
