Beer Festival

Sept. 14-16, Castelfranco Veneto Beer Festival dedicated to some 40 Italian breweries with more than 200 different beers in an area of approximately 5,000 square meters. Big food stand and live music. Friday from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m.-midnight. Free entrance.

Flavors and Traditions Fest

Sept. 14-16, Terrassa Padovana (Padova), Via Roma, about 40 miles south of Vicenza. Food booths open at 7 p.m. Trade fair of local products, handicraft market and antiques with more than 100 exhibitors. Highlights of the event include: Sept. 16 at 10 a.m., historical military parade of the 16th Reggimento Treviso 1797-Republic of San Marco with flag-hoisting ceremony and military exercises; 4:30 p.m., archery event with Arcieri Sagittario del Veneto, archery association and open skills test to participants; 5 p.m., military reenactment of 16th Reggimento Treviso 1797-Republic of San Marco. Photography exhibit and inflatable play area for children. Food booths open at 6:30 p.m.

Rice Festival

Sept. 14-19, Grumolo delle Abbadesse, about nine miles east of Vicenza. Food booths featuring local rice dishes and other specialties open at 7:30 p.m. Local product exhibit and sale; free entrance. Live music and entertainment every night starting at 8:30 p.m.

Ferrara Balloon Festival

Through Sept. 16, Ferrara, Bassani Park, Via Riccardo Bacchelli, about 70 miles south of Vicenza. Admission fee: Saturday & Sunday €5 (free for children younger than 12); free entrance Monday--Friday. Free parking and shuttle service from the main parking lot downtown Ferrara.

Tocatì Festival

International Festival of Street Games

Through Sept. 16, Verona, about 42 miles southwest of Vicenza. Created in 2003, the International Festival of Street Games: Tocatì ("it's your turn" in Veronese dialect) is a unique festival, its aim to revive and teach old traditional street games. The historic center of Verona is turned into a playground. The city center will be filled with game stations, and traditional music and dances. Local food on San Giorgio waterfront: Friday, 6-10:30 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to take part in the games; rules will be explained by festival staff members.

Aviation painting exhibition

Sept. 16 and Sept. 29-30. Artistic project called 'The knights of the sky' organized by the Arma Aeronautica, military aviation association of Vicenza. There will be two events: first, the exhibit will be located at the Loggia del Capitaniato in Piazza dei Signori in downtown Vicenza with an opening ceremony Sept. 16 at 11 a.m., and the second one will be at Villa Caldogno, Caldogno Sept. 29-30. Free entrance. Vicenza: exhibit open 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3: 30--7 p.m.; Caldogno: exhibit open 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3:30--10:30 p.m.

Milan Film Festival

Sept. 29-Oct. 7, 23rd edition of the Milano Film Festival, also known as MFF, takes place at ANTEO Palazzo del Cinema, Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato, and BASE Milano, Milan. This year's artistic director is Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores. MFF strives to promote independent films and support emerging filmmakers. Created originally as a competition of local short films, over the years MFF has become an international film festival. Competing films and the program will be revealed this month. Van Gogh Multimedia Experience

Through Sept. 30, Mondays-Thursdays and Sundays, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-10:30 p.m., Venice, Palazzo Giustinian Faccanon, Dorsoduro; this exhibit examines Van Gogh's life and works, with video visions of many of his paintings and drawing, completed with info in Italian and English. Entrance fee: €15; reduced €12 (children younger than 18, senior citizens over 65); free for children younger than 7 years old.

Egypt. Gods, Pharaohs and Men

Through Sept. 30, open daily, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., last admission 9 p.m. Jesolo, Via Aquileia 123. This exhibit offer a great display of Egyptian artifacts coming from the most important collections of Italian and foreign museums. Visitors not only have a chance to see, know, and analyze the Egyptian world, they can also feel it, thanks to many interactive supports. Entrance fee: €16; reduced: €12 (senior citizens older than 65; students and people with disabilities); €8 (children aged 6-12); free for children younger than 6. Tickets include audio guide.

Rice Fair

Through Oct. 7, Isola della Scala (Verona), about 42 miles southwest of Vicenza. Open Mondays-Fridays, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.-midnight; Saturdays 11 a.m.--1 a.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.-midnight. This is the largest Italian event dedicated to rice and risotto; it will host chefs from many Italian regions who will cook their specialties during the fair. Exhibits, sporting events, shows, live music and gastronomic competitions. Free entrance.

Oct. 5-8, Montegalda, Piazza Marconi, about 12 miles southwest of Vicenza. Food stand featuring Vicentine cod fish with polenta and many other traditional specialties; open at 6:30 p.m. Live music and dancing.

Sagra dell'Arna

Duck Festival

Oct. 4-9, Torri di Quartesolo, about four miles southeast of Vicenza. Food booths featuring bigoli in duck sauce and the traditional duck stuffed roll open at 7 p.m. Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. opening ceremony of the exhibit "World War I". Photography and mycological exhibits; live music and dancing starts nightly at 9 p.m.; Carnival rides, covered dance floor and parking.

Pordenone Silent Film Festival

Oct. 6-13, Verdi Theater, Pordenone, about 85 miles northeast from Vicenza. Verdi Theater in Pordenone hosts the 37th edition of Le Giornate del Cinema Muto -- Pordenone Silent Film Festival, one of the most important film festivals in the world dedicated to silent film, and considered by Variety Magazine to be one of the top 50 unmissable film festivals in the world.Day and evening tickets are €10. Exceptions: opening, closing nights and special events, €20. A Day Ticket is valid on the day of issue only, for all films screened from the morning until the last show of the afternoon session; the Evening Ticket is valid for all films screened from 8:30 p.m. onwards. On sale only at the Giornate Box Office at the Teatro Verdi.

The Giornate Box Office opens Oct. 6 at 2 p.m.; during the festival, it will remain open daily 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-10:30 p.m.

Online tickets will be available starting in late September (online bookings incur a €3 surcharge per ticket), www.giornatedelcinemamuto.it/en. Silent films are presented with live musical accompaniment; intertitles are translated into Italian and/or English with electronic subtitles.

Through Nov. 11, open every day, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., last admission 6 p.m.; October and November 9 a.m.-6 p.m., last admission 5 p.m. Valeggio sul Mincio (Verona), Via Cavour 1. By car, the park can be reached taking Autostrada A4, Peschiera del Garda exit. The park offers the opportunity to capture the magic of each season with photos. Voted the most beautiful park of Italy in 2013, and in 2015, it was awarded second place in Europe's Most Beautiful Parks. During autumn, the park is dominated by foliage: hundreds of Japanese maples lagerstroemias, liquidambars and the green of the lawns. A parking area is located near the entrance; visitors may walk, use the electric shuttle or tour by bike.Entrance fee: €12.50; reduced €6.50 for children 5-14, €10 senior citizens over 65; free for children younger than 4 years old.
