U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox Commander Maj. Gen. John Evans Jr. and Fort Knox Garrison Commander Col. Patrick Kaune present the Fort Knox Gold Neighbor award to Carl Cornelius at the annual Fort Knox Community Partnership Dinner Aug. 16 at the post's catering and conference center -- the Saber & Quill.

Cornelius was named the 2018 Fort Knox Gold Neighbor for his support of Soldiers and Families throughout the years. He helped organize "Operation Cookie Push" at his church for several years, where boxes of cookies and essentials were mailed to deployed Fort Knox Soldiers as part of helping keep morale high and letting them know community members back home were thinking of them.

Cornelius has also been active in several organizations that work to directly support Soldiers -- from president to the Fort Knox Chapter of the National Infantry Association; to a member of AUSA, the MOAA and Gold Vault Chapter of the AG Corps Regimental Association; to an honorary member and treasurer of the Kentucky Bluegrass Sergeants Major Association. He has also been generous of his resources to support such events as Hooray for Heroes, Wreaths Across America, the Fort Knox Spouses and Community Club's Gold Rush event, Cadet Summer Training top graduate awards, and the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club inductee awards.
