JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wa -- At Exercise Courage Dawn 18, a tactical command post exercise held August 27-29, 2018 on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Soldiers had the opportunity to train on their military occupational skills in a simulated deployed environment.
Spc. Kayauna Stepney, a multi-channel transmission systems operator-maintainer and Army Reserve Soldier from I Corps Main Command Post-Operations Detachment, enjoys what she does so much she went to school for it.
"I picked signal because I have an interest in anything communications and technology," said Stepney. "I like the technical aspect of my job, being hands-on, taking things apart and figuring out how they work and trying to put them back together."
Stepney grew up in a military family and considers Fort Knox, Kentucky her hometown. She and members of the MCP-OD are working with I Corps' Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion for the duration of the exercise.
"My job is to make sure our equipment is up and running at all times to allow communication between the units here," said Stepney.
