Rest, relax, be safe Labor Day weekend

ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. -- Labor Day celebrates and honors this nation's tremendous workforce.

This Labor Day, we pause to give thanks for all who have worked so hard to create and sustain this great country.

Without your dedication, our nation's strength, freedom and prosperity would be impossible.

Traditionally, Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer.

As a result, many of you may celebrate with barbeques while enjoying the company of friends and family.

Others may take one last seasonal vacation during this four-day weekend.

Whatever your plans, I encourage you to remember the associated risks.

If you take decide to cook out, following a few simple rules could make difference between a memorable event and a trip to the emergency room.

Never leave the grill unattended and never place it too close to materials which can cause injuries, fires or property damage.

If you take to the road, be alert and drive defensively.

Take a second to buckle up for every trip, every time -- even when traveling a short distance.

Your contributions here at Anniston Army Depot are critically important.

Readiness remains our number one priority and every person who works on the depot is our most critical asset.

Collectively, we remain committed to ensuring our Soldiers have the combat vehicles, weaponry and artillery they need to be ready to fight, survive and win.

This Labor Day, take time to reflect on all the hard work we have done and will continue to do in support of our military men and women.

Enjoy your time off and keep safety in the forefront of your daily activities.

We salute the entire ANAD workforce for your service. Your contributions enable Army readiness today and tomorrow.

Please remain vigilant over the holiday; if you see something -- say something.

Please remain aware of your surroundings and environment, we need you to return healthy and rested.

Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend -- you've earned it.

Army Strong!
