63rd Expeditionary Signal Battalion Begins Brigade Field Training Exercise

FORT STEWART, GA -- With the advancement of technology tactics used by the U.S. Army are forever changing. But one tactic hasn't to date, training Soldiers in field environments.

Soldiers assigned to the 63rd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 35th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade embarked on the annual brigade field training exercise into the training grounds of Ft. Stweart, Ga.

The battalion set up their base of operation in a forward operating base with barbed wire fencing, armed entry control point and the hum of power supplying generators, started this year's FTX July 11, in the hot and humid Georgia Summer.

"The main training objectives for this field exercise is to execute missions in auster environments and weather conditions," said Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Duke, senior enlisted advisor, 63rd ESB. "We're running multiple lanes to enhance technical and tactical proficiency. I know we are good at providing signal support, but I want to train on tactical proficiency while supplying the first class signal support we are known for."

With the focus heavily on tactical execution the battalion plans on implementing various training events such as reacting to in-direct fire, chemical biological radiological and nuclear events, cyber warfare and a maintenance lane.

"Along with the multiple lanes we will be executing certifications in our battalion's tier system as well as team jumping, improving on our efficiency moving from one location to the next," said Duke. "We will be providing realistic training in extreme heat conditions for real world missions building character and grit through adversity."

The temperature is expected to remain in the mid-to-high 90s throughout the battalion's field training exercise, but these conditions build technically and tactical Soldiers that are hardened and ready to execute any mission in their future.
