On Saturday, we celebrate the 228th birthday of the United States Coast Guard -- our nation's oldest maritime agency -- and recognize the contributions of the brave men and women who serve across America's waterways as well as in our ports and oceans around the world.
In 1790, the Revenue Cutter Service joined with several marine agencies to provide unique naval capabilities to early America. Since then, the Coast Guard has had a long and distinguished history, participating in every conflict our Nation has been a part of. The Coast Guard earned and proudly displays 43 battle streamers from 17 wars and conflicts throughout our military history.
Today, the United States Coast Guard conducts law enforcement, environmental protection, navigation aid, preventative safety and search and rescue, while saving thousands of lives along our coastlines every year. They also continue to perform their heroic duties throughout the world, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with America's Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen.
We thank our Coast Guard as they protect and defend Americans every day and remain "Always Ready." We are proud to serve with you. Semper Paratus.
