VICENZA, Italy -- Three Department of Defense Schools volleyball camps for boys and girls will take place this summer in Germany and Vicenza. Each camp will include three skill levels: basic, intermediate and advanced.

The Basic Skill Development Group will cover all basic skills of volleyball, to include serving, passing, attacking, blocking and digging. This group will provide a fun, yet challenging, atmosphere for beginners and less skilled players to learn fundamentals required to play volleyball at a competitive level.

The Intermediate Skills Group is designed for players who have had experience on middle school, junior varisty or limited varsity floors. It's also for those who have played in clubs in the United States at the intermediate level. Coaches will ensure basic skills are well executed and work to correct any errors. More advanced skills will be introduced.

The Advanced Skills Group is designed for the advanced volleyball player looking for a more intense experience. This camp will offer more extensive instruction in passing, setting, attacking, serving and individual defense, but will also focus on more complex team offense and defense. It is recommended that athletes in this camp be experienced and have played at least one to two years on a varsity or junior club team.

All athletes must bear in mind that self selection is not the only means of grouping; camp directors and coaches reserve the right to move players to other groups as necessary. Guest coaches and clinicians are Katie Charles and Eric Hodgson, who bring a wealth of experience from various levels of the sport.

The camp in Ramstein, Germany, will take place Aug. 9-11; in Vilseck, Germany, Aug. 13-15; and in Vicenza, Aug. 16-18. Cost is $60 for beginners and $115 for intermediate or advanced players. The fee includes a camp T-shirt and a volleyball.
