San Juan, PR, July 9, 2018 -- The Puerto Rico National Guard celebrated 100 years of the "Quiet Professionals," as the Warrant Officer Corps is known, at a ceremony held at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico.

"The creation of the Warrant Officer Corps has been one of the greatest assets to the US military," said the Adjutant General of Puerto Rico, Brig. Gen. Isabelo Rivera. "These highly- skilled professionals are considered the keepers of Army knowledge and procedures, and they surely know how to make things happen. I'm proud of the Puerto Rico National Guard Warrant Officers and the positive influence each has had on me during my career."

The ceremony started with a video depicting the testimonies of past, present and future warrant officers of the PRARNG, and the pride they show by being a part of such an elite corps. Warrant Officer Class 18-01 continued the ceremony by formally presenting their class emblem, which was followed by the ceremonial cake cutting.

"The Warrant Officer's mission has become fundamentally important to the Nation's Armed Forces," said Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jose Garcia, Command Chief Warrant Officer of the Puerto Rico National Guard. "As Warrant Officers we are highly skilled, technical experts and advisors. This rank, position and its longevity gives us the opportunity to effectively support the commanders in our areas of expertise, thus enhancing the mission capabilities of any command."

The PRARNG has 76 Warrant Officers currently serving across the Island. In the US Army, Warrant Officers serve in 17 branches and 67 different specialties. The Warrant Officer rank and grade was approved by act of Congress on July 9, 1918.
